Fay Slift and the 3 Bears – post-show

“Fay Slift and the Three Bears“, offered up a high-camp, adult take on the on the familiar fairytale Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Drag sensation Fay Slift starred as the delinquent break-and-enter artist who follows her gut – and nose – to the urban home of three gay archetypes and ruins their plans for a party night.  Told through voiceover narration and pop-culture-inspired videos, the story ending fell to the audience to choose from three potential fates for the adventurous and self-indulgent protagonist.

From February 20-24th, 2013 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre as part of the Rhubarb Festival we were treated to full houses as we played in our cartoony set and costumes. We had amazing collaborators and had great, silly fun creating and performing this half hour play.

We’re still over the moon about the team that brought this to life.  Ladybear Extraordinaire Fay Slift is a drag performance character created by elementary teacher John Paul Kane (along with photographer hubby David Hawe as stylist).   Good buddy Kaleb Robertson (Tiny) is a well-connected and much-loved cultural producer and performer-about-town.  Nina Bunjevac (set/prop design) is a comic artist, illustrator and author of graphic novels Heartless and the upcoming Fatherland.  Atom Cianfarani (costume design) is a friend we made a decade ago in an overheated tent in Michigan.  This is our first, long-awaited collaboration, and we can’t stop talking about Atom’s fashion work as half of Gaelyn and Cianfarani (she dressed P!nk and Britney, among others).  Rounding out the team, our longtime friend and fellow partiste Cat Nimmo / Kitty Neptune (choreographer and outside eye) kept us moving in the right direction, and Lindsay Barton (director) whose many talents and skills – in both theatre and child psychology – kept us focused and funny.
